Who we are

DiveScanner is a liveaboard comparison website at https://divescanner.net/. The website helps divers compare liveaboard trips by destination, month, dive level, wildlife interest and operator.

For privacy questions, contact us at [email protected].

Data we collect

Search information

When you use the comparison machine, you may choose a destination, month, certification level, logged dives, wildlife interests, budget, trip length and solo travel preference. We use those choices to show matching liveaboard options and dive guide advice.

Newsletter information

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect the name and email address you submit through the form.

Technical information

Our hosting and backend services may process technical information needed to deliver the website, protect it from abuse and keep it working. This can include IP address, browser type, device information, pages requested, date and time of request and error logs.

Messages you send us

If you contact us by email, we receive the information included in your message and your email address.

How we use data

  • To operate the liveaboard comparison search.
  • To show destination, route, certification and wildlife advice.
  • To send newsletter updates when you subscribe.
  • To respond to emails and partner requests.
  • To protect the website, troubleshoot errors and improve performance.
  • To measure site performance and understand how visitors use the site, using the analytics and product tools described below.
No booking account is created on DiveScanner. DiveScanner sends users to official provider or travel partner pages for booking confirmation. Final price, cabin availability, payment and booking terms are handled by the provider or travel partner you choose.

Marketing, SEO and analytics services

We use third party marketing, SEO and analytics services to understand how the site is found and used so we can improve it. These services help us measure visits and traffic sources, see which search terms bring visitors to DiveScanner, and understand how visitors interact with pages, which can include aggregate metrics such as heatmaps and session replays. This information is used to improve the site and is not used to identify you personally.

These services may use cookies and may process data outside your country under appropriate safeguards. Where the law requires it, they run only after you accept analytics cookies, and you can withdraw consent at any time by blocking cookies in your browser.

Outbound links

DiveScanner links out to liveaboard operators and to booking partners, including Divebooker, so you can complete a booking. Some of these are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you book after clicking, at no extra cost to you. This never changes the prices you see or the cheapest first order. When you follow a link you leave DiveScanner, and the partner's own privacy policy and terms then apply.

DiveScanner does not sell trips and does not charge you anything to use the site. We are not responsible for the content or data practices of third party websites.

Newsletter

When you subscribe, your name and email address are used to send DiveScanner updates, seasonal liveaboard information, price alerts, destination notes and operator updates.

You can unsubscribe or ask us to remove your newsletter data by emailing [email protected].

Cookies and local storage

DiveScanner uses a simple local storage preference to remember that you accepted the cookie notice. This stops the banner from showing every time you visit.

We use analytics cookies from third party marketing, SEO and analytics services to understand aggregate website traffic and how visitors use the comparison search, so we can improve the site. These process usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location, device, browser and on page behaviour including heatmaps and session replays. This is analytics only. We do not use advertising cookies on the website.

You can opt out by blocking cookies in your browser. If advertising tools or additional tracking are added later, this policy will be updated and the website will request consent where required.

How long we keep data

  • Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask for removal.
  • Contact emails may be kept while the conversation is active and for a reasonable period after that.
  • Technical logs are kept according to the retention settings of our hosting and infrastructure providers.
  • Search choices are used to return results and may appear in technical logs, but DiveScanner does not require a user account to search.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • Ask us to delete your data.
  • Withdraw consent for newsletter emails.
  • Object to certain processing.
  • Ask for a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Complain to your local data protection authority.

To use these rights, email [email protected].

Children

DiveScanner is intended for divers and travel planners. It is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, newsletter, search technology or provider integrations change. The updated date at the top of this page will show the latest version.
