The best time to dive Mexico depends on the region. Socorro is best from November to May for giant oceanic mantas and sharks. The Sea of Cortez is best from July to November for sea lions, mobula rays and whale sharks. Pick the region that matches the month you can travel.
Socorro, month by month
- November to December: season opens, giant mantas arrive, chances of whale sharks.
- January to March: peak sharks, cooler water, humpback whales passing.
- April to May: warming water, mantas and the best whale shark chances at the end of the season.
- June to October: liveaboards do not run, the sea is too rough.
Sea of Cortez, month by month
- Spring: huge mobula ray aggregations near La Paz and Cabo.
- July to October: warm water, playful sea lion pups at Los Islotes, rich marine life.
- October to April: whale sharks gather in La Paz bay, usually a snorkel.
- Cabo Pulmo: a protected park, dives well much of the year for big fish schools.

A note on Guadalupe
Guadalupe was famous for great white cage diving, historically August to November, but access is currently restricted by the Mexican authorities. Do not count on it, confirm first.
