Dive Buddy is a feature of DiveScanner, a liveaboard comparison website, available at https://divescanner.net/dive-buddy. It lets divers build a profile, plan trips and find a buddy for the same dates.

Your account
Dive Buddy uses the same DiveScanner account and sign-in as the rest of the website. There is no separate Dive Buddy login. If you already have a DiveScanner account, you use it to sign in to Dive Buddy directly.
Data we collect
Profile information
To build your Dive Buddy profile, we collect: your display handle, a profile photo (optional), your certification level, dive count range, languages, interests and gender (all optional and self-reported). You choose what appears on your public card.
Trip plans
When you set a trip you're planning, we store the destination and month. Dive Buddy never collects or stores your precise location or GPS position.
Chat messages
Messages you send to a matched buddy or a trip crew are stored so the conversation works. Only the people in that conversation can read it.

Certification verification
Matching, messaging and meeting other divers is limited to divers who have submitted their certification details (agency, certification number and level) for review. This reduces fake profiles. Verification is a review step, not an independent audit of your identity or diving ability, and DiveScanner cannot guarantee the accuracy of another diver's profile.
Matching and chat
Your public card (handle, photo, certification badge if verified, languages and interests, never your exact location) is visible to other Dive Buddy users so they can decide whether to match with you. Your planned trip (destination and month) is visible to other divers as part of matching, so you can be found by others planning the same trip.
Meeting a buddy: safety
Dive Buddy helps you find and message another diver. Whether and how you meet, dive or travel with a buddy you find through the app is your own decision. Meet in a public place first, tell someone your plans, confirm the other diver's certification directly before diving together, and always do a buddy check.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can alert you about a new match or message. You can withdraw this at any time in your browser or device notification settings; declining never affects your ability to use Dive Buddy.
Data retention and deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all Dive Buddy data at any time from your account settings. This removes your profile, photos, trip plans, verification submission, matches, messages you sent, feed posts and likes, and your sign-in itself. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your data, object to certain processing, or ask for a copy of your data. To use these rights, email [email protected].
Children
Dive Buddy is intended for certified divers and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Dive Buddy changes. The updated date at the top of this page shows the latest version.
