Dive Buddy Terms of Service

Dive Buddy Terms of Service.

These terms apply to Dive Buddy, DiveScanner's feature for building a diver profile and finding a buddy for a liveaboard trip. By using Dive Buddy you agree to these terms in addition to DiveScanner's general use of the website.

Last updated: 3 August 2026

Eligibility

Dive Buddy is for certified divers aged 16 or over. You must give accurate information about your certification and diving experience.

Your account

Dive Buddy uses your existing DiveScanner account. You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in secure.

Certification verification

Matching, messaging and meeting other divers requires submitting your certification agency, number and level for review. Verification reduces fake profiles but is a review step, not an independent audit of your identity or diving ability. Submitting false certification information may result in your account being suspended or removed.

Conduct

When using Dive Buddy you agree not to:

  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your certification, experience or identity.
  • Harass, threaten or abuse another diver.
  • Use Dive Buddy to solicit money, sell services, or advertise a business without DiveScanner's consent.
  • Post content that is illegal, sexually explicit, hateful or that endangers another person's safety.
  • Create more than one account, or use Dive Buddy after your account has been removed.

Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, profile text and messages you post. By posting them on Dive Buddy, you allow DiveScanner to display them to other Dive Buddy users as part of the normal operation of the feature (for example, showing your profile photo on your card). You are responsible for the content you post and confirm you have the right to post it.

Safety when meeting a buddy

Dive Buddy helps you find and message other divers. DiveScanner does not organise, supervise or guarantee any dive, meeting or trip arranged through Dive Buddy, and does not guarantee the identity, certification or conduct of any other user. Meet in a public place first, tell someone your plans, confirm the other diver's certification directly before diving together, and always do a buddy check. You use Dive Buddy, and any dive or meeting arranged through it, at your own risk and judgment.

Reporting and blocking

You can block another diver at any time, which stops them from contacting you or seeing your profile. You can report a profile or message that breaks these terms; we review reports and may warn, suspend or remove an account as a result.

Termination

You can delete your Dive Buddy account and data at any time (see the Dive Buddy Privacy Policy). We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, without notice where safety is at risk.

Liability

Dive Buddy is provided as a feature of DiveScanner "as is". To the extent permitted by law, DiveScanner is not liable for the conduct of other users, or for any dive, meeting or trip you arrange through Dive Buddy. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Dive Buddy changes. The updated date at the top of this page shows the latest version.
