The best time to dive Bahamas depends on what you want to see.
Overall best: December to March, for tiger sharks and great hammerheads together. This is a realistic chance, never a guarantee.
You can dive the Bahamas year round in warm, clear water, and the shark seasons matter most. Tiger sharks at Tiger Beach are best from about October to January. Great hammerheads off Bimini are best in winter, about December to March. Oceanic whitetips off Cat Island are best in spring, around April to May. Caribbean reef sharks are seen year round.

The Bahamas is all about big sharks in clear water: tiger sharks, great hammerheads, oceanic whitetips, Caribbean reef, lemon and nurse sharks. You will also find dolphins, turtles, groupers, reefs, wrecks and blue holes.
Tiger Beach is a shallow sandy site famous for close tiger shark encounters. Bimini offers winter great hammerheads. Cat Island offers spring oceanic whitetips in the blue. Andros and Exuma have reefs, walls and blue holes.
Many Bahamas shark dives are guided and take place in shallow water, so they can suit divers from Advanced level who are comfortable around large sharks. These are big animal dives, so they suit confident divers rather than nervous first timers.
Tiger Beach trips usually depart from Freeport on Grand Bahama, while other routes leave from Nassau. Fly into Freeport or Nassau, often connecting through Florida. Some Bahamas shark liveaboards also depart from West Palm Beach in Florida and cross to the dive sites.
