When is the best time to dive Egypt?

The best time to dive Egypt depends on what you want to see.

Overall best: June to November for warm water and sharks. The wrecks dive well all year. This is a realistic chance, never a guarantee.

You can dive the Red Sea year round. Water is warmest from June to September at around 27 to 30 C, and coolest from January to March at around 21 to 23 C, when a thicker wetsuit helps. The offshore shark reefs of the Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone run from about March to November and are best for sharks in late summer and autumn. The northern wrecks and reefs dive well all year.

What marine life will I see on Egypt liveaboards?

The Red Sea is known for healthy coral reefs, historic wrecks and sharks. Expect grey reef and whitetip reef sharks, oceanic whitetips and hammerheads on the offshore routes, plus dolphins, turtles, napoleon wrasse, moray eels and glassfish. The Thistlegorm is one of the most famous wreck dives in the world.

What are the top Egypt liveaboard routes and dive sites?

North and Wrecks covers the Thistlegorm, Abu Nuhas, Ras Mohammed and the reefs of the Straits of Tiran, and suits newer divers and wreck fans. The Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone route visits offshore pinnacles and walls for sharks, and needs more experience. The Deep South and St John's reaches remote, pristine reefs near the Sudanese border.

Who do Egypt liveaboards suit?

Northern routes suit most certified divers from Open Water level. Offshore shark routes involve deeper dives, currents and blue water, so operators usually ask for Advanced certification and a number of logged dives. Filter by your dive level so you only see suitable trips.

How do I get to a Egypt liveaboard?

Most Red Sea liveaboards depart from Hurghada or from Port Ghalib and Marsa Alam in the south. Fly into Hurghada or Marsa Alam, both of which have direct flights from many European cities. Northern wreck and reef routes usually leave from Hurghada, while southern and offshore shark routes usually leave from Port Ghalib or Marsa Alam. Transfers from the airport to the boat are short.
